Brief

WISSAL SYSTEMS is an Algerian store for computer equipment. It sells know brands products like HP, Canon, Dell ... It has also a sub-brand named WIPRINT for print accessories such as toner and ink cartridge.

My scope was to do a re-branding for WISSAL SYSTEMS, WIPRINT, and do the packaging for WIPRINT toner and ink cartridge.

1. WISSAL SYSTEMS

Bellow, you can see some early sketches where I tried to make different types of logos, including wordmark logos, symbol logos, and combination logos.

ideation

Victorization

We chose two concepts to vectorize them and see how they will look like after realization.

Results

a. Logo

WISSAL SYSTEMS primary logo is a simple combination of an abstract symbol and a wordmark. The symbol. It’s an abstraction of the letters ‘WI’ which will be a part of many sub-products. Furthermore, it uses a golden ratio and symbolizes a shield to communicate trust and security. In the wordmark, we used two weights of TT Commons to emphasize WISSAL. The blue color to communicate our main values: Trust, Intelligence, and Control. Moreover, it gives a hint that we are in the IT field.

b. Clear Space

To ensure legibility, always keep a minimum clear space around the logo. This space isolates the mark from any competing graphic elements like other logos that might conflict with.
The minimum clear space is defined as half the symbol height.

c. Scale Reduction

Establishing a minimum size ensures that the impact and legibility of the logo is not compromised in application. The WISSAL SYSTEMS logo width should never be smaller than 130px in digital or 25mm in print. The secondary logo width should be bigger than 60px in digital and 10mm in print

Scale Reduction

d. Color Usage

The logo has 4 color possibilities for its use and the must be chosen according to the background in which it is being placed.
Priority should be given to the colorful version. Nevertheless, when used in colored background it is advised to use the white or black version, depending on the background its used

e. Prohibited usage

A few rules are necessary for maintaining the integrity of a brand

  1. Don’t rotate the logo
  2. Don’t stretch it
  3. Don’t resize any part
  4. Don’t use different colors
  5. Don’t modify the compositions
  6. Don’t change the typography

f. Brand Colors

Color is an integral part of brand identity. Consistent use of the color palette will not only reinforce the cohesiveness of the brand, but color also serves a psychological purpose by communicating a certain feeling to the audience.
Blue is the most used color in the IT domain. Moreover, it represent the values of WISSAL SYSTEMS. Blue is intelligent, expert, and credible.

g. Typography

TT Commons is a sans-serif typeface published through Russian foundry TypeType in 2018. The design features geometric proportions, tight apertures and low stroke contrast. The family is available in nine weights with matching italics.

Lora is a well-balanced contemporary serif with roots in calligraphy. It is a text typeface with moderate contrast well suited for body text. Technically Lora is optimized for screen appearance, and works equally well in print.

2. WIPRINT

WIPRINT also is a combination of an abstract symbol and a wordmark. The symbol. It’s an abstraction of the letters ‘WI’ which will be a part of many other products of WISSAL SYSTEMS. Furthermore, it uses a golden ratio to symbolize a fountain pen and a crown to communicate the quality of our products. In the wordmark, I use a serif font - Begum and a blue ink color to give the majestic feeling

3. Ink and Toner Cartridge packaging

Before starting the packaging design, I asked for the information that I should include in each packaging, but they had only the box sizes. Moreover, they wanted something different from the existing copies in the Algerian market. Consequently, I had to do a competitive analysis to see different IA.

While I was working on the logo, they started the production of the toner and ink cartridge, and I had to finish both packagings in 15 days. It was a big responsibility because the manufacture had to print more than 50 000 pieces.

Besides the limited time, I had some print constraints. There were more than 20 models, and I had to do a separated sticker for each model.
